Cardiff skate comp - 21st April 02 From stimulus' site
Well I thought I'd get a quick update in sooner rather than later as I know your all dying to know what happened on the weekend. Without any bias I have to say the comp was great, everyone seemed to have a top laugh, I mean, Chewie Cannon didn't stop smiling all day, and he wasn't the only one. Brian Jones seemed to be enjoying himself especially while nailing kickflip melons over the driveway.
The weather was barbecue standard issue, so next year maybe that could be order of the day!
As for the skating, well it was just one of those day's.... The under 16's kicked off the comp and didn't let anyone down, with kickflip grabs being thrown in here and there and plenty of the course being used it made interesting viewing.
As the day progressed the skating got bigger and faster, Saul Evans destroyed the whole course transferring from a quarter into the mini and then back out, Cashman seemed possessed, pushing as fast as he could between every obstacle, he must have hit every bit of wood at least once. Wainwright had bad luck on his first run, but he is only human after all, and anyway he got the goods second time out, Churchill mixed his runs with flippery with big airs never being one to disappoint the kids.
Matt Saunders skated like it was his last day on earth, nose grinds, big 5050's over the driveway, heelflip railslide! and big airs, poor ol Brian Jones really suffered in his first run when the kickflip melon he'd been landing with his eyes closed seemed to do a disappearing act. He made up for it in his second run though 10 fold.
Starting with the kickflip that eluded him in the first run and then pulling all sorts out, grinds, 360 flips etc. next comp I go to I promise to take a notepad!
The mini ramp comp was sick too, if you ask anyone though who they remember that day it would have to be Ben Layden. He was on that thing most of the day, and even though I saw him nursing his ankle in the car park early in the afternoon he still managed to rip.
Well then if you want to know more about the comp, tough! make sure you go to the next one!
A big thanks to all those who turned up both skaters and voyeurs. Thanks to Gareth and Jane at CSP and all the other sponsors!
